Equipment Repositioning Charge ( E.R.C )
Current European to USA export volumes are exceptionally strong whilst at the same time, import volumes returning from North America have fallen to unprecedented levels, and now represent just a third of ACL’s weekly Westbound lift. Consequently, demand for all equipment types across Europe is now outstripping their available stocks in all markets. External developments on the horizon also threaten to test operations and impact flows, placing further pressure on an already stressed equipment fleet. In particular, the possibility of a second ILA labour action in mid-January.
Against this background of a widening imbalance, to meet the ongoing needs of European customers, effective immediately, Atlantic Container Line will be instituting a surcharge to help support an escalated program of ocean repositioning of empty units, and to also offset the extraordinary costs that they are now confronted with as they urgently reposition empty boxes within their network.
